What is a press release?
A press release is an announcement printed by the Columbia Register free of charge. The announcement should describe the “who, what, when, where, and why” of your topic. Remember, there is a difference between a free press release and paid advertising. A release that is designed to bring a company or an individual person financial gain usually is advertising. If you are unsure whether or not your announcement is a press release or an advertisement, send us an e-mail at info@columbiaregister.com, and we’ll let you know.

Remember, keep press releases as simple as possible. Your announcement should be written as direct as you can. Also, keep in mind that we reserve the right to edit all press releases submitted. We may shorten it a bit due to space restrictions, or we could edit it for style and grammatical correctness. Remember, include “who, what, when, where and why,” and you should be perfectly fine.

Press releases are accepted via e-mail (info@columbiaregister.com), fax, mail, or by dropping them off.

PHOTOS:
Photos (digital or hard copy) are welcome with any submitted release. Please be sure to properly label who is in the photo either at the bottom of the press release or on the back of the photo. If you would like your photo returned, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your release.

BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The Columbia Register is happy to print announcements of new hires, promotions and awards earned by businesses with photos.

SPORTS:
We always welcome your sports news, photos and stats, including youth and community sports.

DEADLINES:
For all press releases, we need them by noon on the Monday before you would like it printed. For example, if you want to run a release about your club’s next meeting and would like it printed on Thursday, May 28, we would need to have it by Monday, May 25.
